“The redevelopment of the Zongo Market is expected to provide a more modern, organised and conducive trading environment, improve sanitation and safety, enhance the overall appearance of the area, and create new economic opportunities for traders and residents,” the MCE, Hon. Frank Nkansah stated.
The MCE acknowledged the concerns associated with the exercise, noting that he appreciates the cooperation and understanding of traders, residents, market leaders and other stakeholders and remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and the successful implementation of the 24-Hour Model Market for the benefit of the people of Ablekuma Central and beyond.
In an interaction with some traders, they commended the president, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for the 24-Hour market initiative. According to them, the redevelopment would enhance more visibility and attract customers for patronage.
“Though we will lose little money but the new market model will be a huge boost for our business. We are happy the president is bringing this initiative to Zongo, we are very excited and we welcome this project”. They said.
As part of measures to cushion traders, the Assembly confirmed that temporal structures have been provided to accommodate affected traders and enable them to continue their businesses while preparations for the redevelopment progress.
