The Ghana Education Service has announced that approval has been secured for the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to newly recruited teachers across the country.
In a press statement issued by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service disclosed that the approval—granted by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department—covers teachers whose arrears accumulated between August 1, 2024, and November 2025.
According to the statement, the payments will be made in a phased and structured manner to ensure efficiency and transparency in the process. The arrears will be disbursed in four instalments, each covering four months.
Under the schedule, beneficiaries will receive four months’ arrears in May 2026, followed by additional payments in June, July, and August 2026 respectively.
The GES explained that this approach is intended to guarantee accuracy while ensuring that all eligible teachers are duly catered for without disruptions.
To facilitate smooth communication, Regional Directors have been tasked to relay the information to Heads of Schools, who will in turn inform affected staff.
Management of the Service also expressed appreciation to teachers for their patience and cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to improving staff welfare and addressing outstanding concerns within the education sector.
