Gbawe Kwatei Family Condemns Sempe Stool Over Akokofoto Dispute

Date:

The Gbawe Kwatei Family has strongly rejected what it describes as “false and spurious” land ownership claims by the Sempe Stool over the Akokofoto lands, traditionally known as Gbawe Koenyonaa, and has condemned recent disturbances linked to the dispute.
In a statement issued to the public, the Family said it was compelled to respond following what it called unfortunate developments, including alleged attacks on security personnel and court officials during recent tensions over the land.
According to the Family, assertions by the Sempe Stool claiming custodianship and ownership of Akokofoto and adjoining lands are unfounded and without legal basis. The Family maintained that it remains the lawful allodial owner of the lands in question and that its rights have been consistently upheld by the courts of the Republic of Ghana.
The statement emphasized that all actions undertaken on the land, including demolition exercises carried out by Alpha Beta Educational Centre Ltd., were executed pursuant to lawful authority and grounded in binding judicial decisions. The Family stressed that these court rulings include affirmations by the Supreme Court of Ghana, making the matter legally settled.
“The Gbawe Kwatei Family categorically rejects the claims by the Sempe Stool as false, spurious and contrary to established judicial pronouncements,” the statement noted.
The Family further condemned what it described as acts of mayhem and attempts to disrupt lawful activities on the land. It warned that any effort to challenge court-backed actions through violence or intimidation undermines the rule of law and threatens public order.
Calling for calm, the Gbawe Kwatei Family urged all parties to respect the decisions of the courts and to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions in the area. It reaffirmed its commitment to upholding lawful processes and protecting its interests through legal means.
The dispute over Akokofoto lands continues to draw public attention, with the Family insisting that the matter has been conclusively determined by the judiciary and should not be reopened through what it described as baseless claims.
